Health Care and Clinical Services

  • Health Science Core - Year 1 
    The Health Sciences (Core) course introduces students to the theory and practical applications of tasks related to employment in the field of health science. Students will cover topics such as safety in the workplace, infection control, health care systems, and the vital organs of the human body. The course offers insight into careers in health care as well as educational requirements and the professional, legal, and ethical responsibilities involved.
     
  • Health Care and Clinical Services - Year 2 
    The Health Care and Clinical Services course helps the student establish insight in the Health Care field. Students will be exposed to the theory and applied tasks related to careers within health care. This course covers topics such as human growth and development, health informatics, information technology, and therapeutic and rehabilitative services. Other topics include medical and emergency services, mental     health, and pharmacological and nursing services.

I am a life-long resident of Picayune, a 2000 graduate of PMHS, and a 2004 graduate of PRCC’s ADN program, and most recently a graduate of William Carey University in the RN to BSN program. 

For 12 years, I worked for several hospitals in the Med/Surg departments, home health, and hospice. I obtained certifications in IC3, Cool, and VIP through the RCU at Mississippi State University to attain a license to teach the Health Science program.  As I enter  my 4th year teaching, I am inspired to further my education in nursing so I may one day teach post-secondary nursing. 

The student organization for health care is HOSA (Future Healthcare Professionals), in which students have the opportunity to compete in various healthcare events with other schools. Coach Griffith and I are the sponsors for HOSA.

I love the satisfaction of watching a student master a skill, achieve success on a test, and share knowledge gained in class with other students.  I firmly believe in the Golden Rule and strive to live this principle out in the classroom for my students to emulate.  I believe so much in Career and Technical education that I left a more lucrative job to focus on educating the next generation of healthcare professionals.

If you've never had the pleasure of meeting Jordan and Tyler, you are truly missing a blessing. PMHS is lucky to have these young men represent our school and are encouraged daily by their enthusiasm for life!
